What inspires you to create?
I have always loved telling stories through comic books. Questions inspire me to draw — what would it be like to be a superhero? Or to be the one behind the scenes who knows one as a real person?
What’s your creative process?
Ideas come either from a question “How would EnergyGirl respond if faced with “X”…?” or growing out of a single page practice sketch — Let’s draw a figure posed like THIS. Okay, now fill the page with background to explain why posed like that. What is happening? Then more pages — what happened before? What happens next?
Tools of the trade:
I’m old, and old-school, so it’s pencils, then Sharpie Fine and Ultra-Fine black markers for the inking, then Crayola colored water-based markers (I’m partially colorblind, and they are nice enough to print the color on the marker barrel). Then scan to jpeg, reset text and clean up digitally with a paint program.
