What inspires you to create?

I am inspired by various underground, independent, and edgy comic book styles that break boundaries and focus on expression and detail. Seeing works by zine artists with their creative and resourceful skills enlightens my creativity bulb and gets me drawing and thinking of silly scenarios.

What’s your creative process?

Being a parent to pet birds builds the foundation of my imagination to create comics about parrots. My cockatoo Lilly’s antics keeps my days joyous and has me observing her sense of humor. When my bird does something silly like meowing like a cat, I grab an ink pen and dribble away. I keep my bird busy while making sure she doesn’t chew my drawing pads. I make a character based off of Lilly and make some contrasts in personalities. I also take short story lines remember myself as Johnny the cockatiel when I was an insecure, thin- skinned child who got into sibling squabbles.

Tools of the trade:

I prefer to use ink pens to add the texture and detail of the characters. I also use a ruler to measure the panels in the comics. There were at times, I’ve used markers and coloring pencils, but I prefer ink pens to tackle detail making.
